Although Stanford University is renowned as a major research center, it also provide excellent facilities for clinical training. As of 2005, there are two free clinics operated by students and physicians that offer services to underserved areas. Rotations occur not only at the Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard's Children hospital, but at other locations such as Kaiser, Santa Clara Valley Hospital and the Palo Alto VA which serve very distinct patient populations and increase diversity of patients and healthcare settings that students learn in.
